How to Unfreeze the Windows Task Manager

For the last few weeks, I got this annoying behaviour in the Windows task manager: When I started it and went to the performance tab, it showed the current system load and then it stops. The screen freezes and the values are no longer updated.

The task manger shows the small bar of values and then nothing happens.

I tried a lot to fix that behaviour, but nothing worked. Until I finally found out that you can set the update speed for the task manager and that some unknown key combination has set it to pause.

If you have the same problem, you can open the Settings menu, scroll down to General and set the value for Real time update speed:

You can choose the speed to update the values.

On older Windows versions, you find the same option in the top menu under View > Update Speed.

With that fix in place, the task manager keeps updating the load values as it should.
