Little Windows Trick: Start a Command Prompt from the Current Folder in Explorer

Some super simple tricks take a long time until you find them. The little trick of this post is probably around since the Windows Operating System got its first graphical user interface. You can browse to a folder in the Windows Explorer and then type cmd into the address bar:

Go to the folder

enter cmd into the address bar

When you hit enter, a Command Prompt opens up and its path is set to your current folder:

cmd window opens at the right place

There is no need to use cd and change through half of your file system or copy the current path. You are exactly where you want to go and can save all that typing for your real work. Try it!
