1,000,000 Page Views for Improve & Repeat

It is time for a little celebration: In the last hours of March my blog hit the 1,000,000 page views milestone:

My blog passed the 1,000,000 views milestone

My blog started with the post Introducing RavenDB: NoSQL for .Net and over last 7.5 years 330 more posts followed. Some small, some big and often written just for the purpose to help me find the syntax of rarely used commands. As it turns out, many of you had the same problems and my blog showed up in your search results. The organic search delivered by far the most views for my blog (around 80%), followed by links from other sites.

If a post finds its audience is not predictable. Some posts I find interesting to write stay below 100 views, while others I quickly put together as a sidenote for something else end up in the 10,000 views. My top 5 posts by views are no exception:

Post # Views
Allowing Self-Signed Certificates on Localhost with Chrome and Firefox 188,539
How to Activate TLS 1.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5 75,377
How to Disable TLS 1.0, 1.1 and SSL on Your Windows Server 58,660
How to Fix the “Keyset does not exist” CryptographicException 31,237
Use the AdventureWorks Sample Database for Your Examples 28,526

Last year’s announcement by Microsoft about TLS 1.2 was a great boost for my TLS posts. If something like this happens again, other topics may skyrocket as well. I am excited to see what happens next and how far this blog will grow.

For all those who wish they got similar numbers: Keep blogging. The big improvement of my page views came as I started to blog every week. Try that and let me know how your numbers change.
