Soft-Shake 2014: Presenting Xanpan and Metrics Based Decisions

Last week I was at the Soft-Shake conference in Geneva to speak about Xanpan and Metrics Based Decisions. This year’s conference was a little bit smaller than the last one, but it could still offer 8 parallel tracks on both days. Being back was nice experience and made all a bit simpler.

Metrics Based Decisions

The talk on how to use Serilog and Seq to gain insights into your application was a natural extension on the blog posts from the last few months. Judged by the feedback and questions that were asked, it seems that many other developer are in the same situation and try to figure out what happens inside their applications.

I published all the examples on GitHub and when you want to look at the slides you can find them on Speaker Deck:

If you are interested to use your resources wisely and move the needle with your development efforts you definitely should try out validated learning.

Xanpan

To reduce waist was also the motivation to spend time with Xanpan. After years of using Kanban I took notice of Xanpan earlier this spring. Since then I made some significant changes and adopted more and more of the ideas of Xanpan.

The slides of this talk are also on Speaker Deck:

I was surprised how many attendees where interested in this talk. The questions and discussion after the talk where great and gave me some good ideas on how to further improve my workflow. There will be definitely some follow-up posts on the differences to Scrum and ScrumBan and how to work with small teams.

Thanks!

As an ending note I like to thank the organisers for inviting me to the conference and all the attendees that took the time to listen to me.
