Export all Saved Passwords from Google Chrome

Google Chrome lets you save your passwords in its password store. While this is a convenient function, it may not be the most trustworthy one. If you trust Google and only use one computer, this may be fine. However, should you try to move your passwords into a service like 1Password, Last Pass or the KeePass application, you will figure out a small problem: The dialog to access your passwords allows you to view only one password at a time:

Chrome saved passwords

Depending on your version of Chrome, you can enter chrome://settings/passwords or chrome://settings-frame/passwords into the address bar of your browser.

A much faster approach is to change flag for the import/export password feature. To go directly to the setting, enter chrome://flags/#password-import-export into the address bar of your browser:

Chrome saved password enable

Change the value to “enabled”, restart Chrome and reopen the password manager. This time you will have a button to export (and import) passwords as a csv-file:
Chrome saved passwords export

The export file has these 4 columns with the name of the site, its URL, your username and password:
Chrome saved passwords CVS export

This file can be imported to the password managers mentioned above. Don’t forget to delete the file as soon as the import has succeeded.

  2. Hi again,
    I think I have found why even if I have activated the option, I could not export/import;
    maybe because of a recent chrome update I don’ t know;

    so you have to do like you say to activate the functionnality; then, instead of going to password managment in chrome menu;
    I think you have to use this instead:
    chrome://settings-frame/passwords

    and now you / I can export(or import) passwords etc….

    ps: in some other websites they suggest this: chrome://settings/passwords ; but it does not work anymore (at least for me)

    • Hi user,
      Thanks for pointing out the change in the newer versions of Chrome. I added now both URLs and hope Google will not change it again.

      Thanks,
      Johnny

  3. This site can’t be reached

    The webpage at chrome://settings-frame/password might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

    • Hi Ather,
      This URL must be entered manually into the address bar of your browser. I changed the post to reflect this more clearly.

        • Hi Anil,
          Chrome version 61 has removed the dialog where you could export the passwords. 🙁
          You may have better luck by installing LastPass or 1Password and use their tools to export the passwords from chrome. I don’t try them recently and have no idea if they still work. Sorry to not give you a better answer.

          Regards,
          Johnny

    • Hi Peter,
      Chrome moves this page in every new version. If you get this error, it means that my trick for exporting all saved passwords will not work. I fear the most sustainable way (what the next versions of Chrome concerns) is to use the Google account and manage your passwords over https://passwords.google.com/. Please let me know if you find a better way.

      Regards,
      Johnny
