Where to Find Test Files?

If we want to test our code, we often need files with the right format. We can create a text file without much effort, but what do we do if we need a specific video format or an audio file in OGG?

Luckily, we are not the only ones with this problem. There are dedicated sites that offers a wide range of file formats that we can use for testing.

File-examples.com

File-examples.com is a dedicated site with example and dummy files for testing that are free to download and use. It offers us a wide range of formats and sizes in these categories:

  • Video files
  • Audio files
  • Documents
  • Images
  • Other files (like html, csv, zip, etc.)

File-examples.com is well-structured, and you find what you are looking for without any distractions.

Sample files library

The Sample files library is another site with free-to-use sample files. There are not that many different formats as on file-examples.com, but it offers larger videos, a selection of lorem ipsum texts and add banners:

Samplelib.com offers a different range of sample files.

Conclusion

The two pages should get you the most common file formats for your tests. If you have more suggestions for test file sites, please leave a comment.
